Poetry By Chuck

When you come to me in anger.
I try to understand.
I see the pain and frustration.
I can tell it causes you grief.

You sit on my lap.
I put my arms around you.
I listen to your fears.
I listen to your heart.

I feel so complimented.
To have you there.
To have gained the trust.
To be able to share.

You paint a disturbed picture.
Something that bothers you.
Detailing it at length.
I closely follow you.

I wonder at your beauty.
While I discern your real need.
You vent and rage.
You tell it all to me.

I know what you really need.
It is not my advice.
Nor any of my conclusions.
Nor my judgement of vice.

I listen.

Then when your through.
When you've said it all.
I agree with you,
and you smile.

I have learned in life.
There are times of strife.
Which require a lap.
One that listens.

How wonderful and touching. So few people can master the great art of listening. Its hard to keep our opinions to ourselves and save the input. We all need to just be heard once in a while and a lap with a hug couldn't be a safer place to vent. Wonderful write. I hope some learn from your wisdom.

Wonderful write, Chuck. Love the background you picked to go with it. It took many years for my husband to learn to listen. Just as touchof1der said, he always wanted to "fix" everything, when I wanted, was for him to listen to me. Just listen. He always wondered, why are we talking about it, when we aren't going to fix it? Well, cause Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus.  We are different. I loved this write, and it seems as if you have got it all together, Chuck. The lucky lady in your life!

its always good to know that there are poeple out there as patient and willing to dedicate the importance of an objective ear and a shoulder to lean on...you don't find people now-a-days willing to do just that...just be still and listen

Beautifully penned! They say that there is a reason we were all created with ONE mouth and TWO ears. It's the natural inclination of man to "fix" things, so to learn to LISTEN is a valuable asset. This is wonderful write Chuck.

I wish my husband would just shut up and listen. lol. But, seriously, this is very true in that you always hear more when you're quick and not jabbering away about everything that's not important. Wonderful and lovely. I enjoyed reading it.

This is a really good poem and it made me think of when I vent to my boyfriend and how it makes him feel and this poem makes me think that this is what he thinks when I talk and he listens. Excellent write keep going!
