When my heart bleeds in the night,
As the shadows lighten in the firelight.
My emotions are visible only in tears,
My mind is full of lonely fears.
The fire writes strange poems in the dark.
Tales of woe and love apart.
Dark tales that wound my soul,
Deep thinking, heavy thoughts of old.
Where is my Country road?
You know the one,
that leads to my abode.
Rocky is its path
And weeds grow so bold.
Along the trail to my home.
She lit my life with laughter
And raised my soul with love.
Now I have to bear the loss,
Of my beautiful dove.
I will find strength in my arms.
I will loosen the tightened binds,
That hold my beating heart so strong
And I will smile,

...even though the fire has dimmed.

I shiver dispite the warming fire.
I can feel the empty hollow.
Of a golden chalice
once filled with love.

If that's love, it comes at much too high a cost!! 70 critiques, 43 poems.

Wow. This gave me chills and goosebumps at the same time. If that's never happened to you, it's a pretty trippy feeling. You're an amazing writer! NEVER QUIT!!! Awesome write!

I think fires can be very inspiring..........I love just sitting and staring into a fire. (not like a pyromaniac or anything!) But, they do have an interesting affect on the soul...can be soothing or extremely volatile. I enjoyed your poem. Sincerely, Mary

This is very sad and very entertaining to read. You did a great job of expressing your feelings.

Theres something about this poem that just ensnares me up into such long lost feelings that I locked away for so many years and just to read this as well as allow these locked feelings glide over me, I feel truly content; doesnt feel sad to me
